Human Services Technology – Addiction & Recovery Services

A Helping Hand for Those in Need

Drugs are everywhere. They are on the street, in our homes, and at the doctor’s office. It is a sad reality, but many people fall victim to drug abuse and have nobody to turn to for help. The WPCC Human Services Technology – Addiction and Recovery program prepares you with the skills necessary to help those individuals and become an influencing factor in their lives. WPCC was one of the first community colleges in the region to provide an Addiction and Recovery Associate in Applied Science degree concentration. This program has had time to mature into one of the most respected and established Recovery and Addiction counseling programs in North Carolina. We provide you with up-to-date tools and techniques to apply in the professional world. We will prepare you to assist in drug and alcohol counseling, prevention-oriented educational activities, rehabilitation with recovering clients, managing community-based programs, and to pursue four-year degrees, just to name few areas.

So where can I work?

WPCC’s program will prepare you for a profession in this important career field. Some examples of positions you could qualify for are DUI workers / assistants, addictions counselor, residential facility employees, and substance education specialists. With clinical experience, you could apply for certification by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the occupational outlook for human services assistants is projected to grow 13% from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations.
